Wellness head-spa course: the skills you really need and how to choose where to learn

Lương Y (traditional healer) Tống Văn Huynh · Tong Gia Acupoint Wellness (Huyệt Đạo Tống Gia) · 20/10/2026

Quick summary: A wellness head-spa course worth taking must teach three groups of skills: acupressure on the head, face and neck, muscle release for the neck and shoulders, and an understanding of nourishing care, not just memorising a multi-step routine. Tong Gia has an herbal wellness head-spa room serving clients every day; the core skills sit within the L1–L2 ladder, and if you want to learn only the head-spa part, ask a consultant.

What is a wellness head spa, and how is it different from a regular hair wash?

Y Tướng Học (face reading for wellness): observing the 3 zones of the face. A real Tong Gia clip.

A regular hair wash is mainly for clean hair and a clean scalp. A wellness head spa uses the wash as a frame; inside it is hands-on care for the head, face, neck and shoulders: acupressure on points of the head and face, scalp massage, neck and shoulder muscle release, combined with warm herbal water. The client leaves not only with clean hair but also with a lighter head and relaxed neck and shoulders.

Many spas and hair salons are interested in this model because it suits busy people: a session that isn't too long, without much changing of clothes, yet still relaxing.

At Tong Gia, the herbal wellness head-spa room is part of the service premises, with its own herb shelf, serving clients every day.

When you take a wellness head-spa course, what skills do you actually need to learn?

This is the most important question. From the outside, a wellness head spa looks simple. But what makes clients feel the difference lies in the hands, not in the number of steps. A good wellness head-spa practitioner needs three groups of skills:

1. Acupressure on the head, face and neck

Know where the acupoints of the head, face and neck are, how to use moderate pressure, and which points call for a light touch. The head and face are sensitive; the wrong pressure makes the client uncomfortable immediately.

2. Neck and shoulder muscle release

Most clients who come for a wellness head spa sit a lot and have stiff, tense necks and shoulders. If you only wash and rub the scalp and skip the neck and shoulders, the feeling of lightness won't be complete. The practitioner needs to know how to find the tense muscle areas and release the right spots.

3. Understanding nourishing care

Know why warm water and herbs are used, what time of day suits a wash, and who should not have a long wash. Understanding the principle "The body is the house, the acupoints are the doors, qi and blood are the wind" helps the practitioner explain things to clients in an easy-to-understand way, rather than reciting by rote.

Be wary of courses that only teach a "20-step routine"

Online there are many courses advertising a wellness head-spa routine with a great many steps. Memorising a routine isn't wrong, but if that's all the course offers, you will run into several problems:

  • Doing exactly the same thing for every client, when each person is tense in a different place.
  • Not knowing how to adjust pressure when the client says it hurts or is too light.
  • Not knowing when to stop.
  • Being unable to answer when a client asks "what is this acupoint for?"

When choosing where to learn, try asking: does the course teach the location and pressure for each acupoint? Does it teach neck and shoulder muscle release? Is there practice on real people with hands-on correction? Is there a trial class?

At Tong Gia: wellness head-spa skills sit within the L1–L2 ladder

Tong Gia says this clearly so you don't misunderstand: Tong Gia currently has not announced a separate wellness head-spa course. The core skills a wellness head-spa practitioner needs sit within the vocational ladder:

  • L1 Introduction to Y Tướng Học (1.500.000đ): daily nourishing care, a few safe self-care acupoints, reading complexion, Five-Element body types, the 3 facial zones, practice in pairs.
  • L2 Basic Vocation: muscle release and acupressure on the neck, shoulders, back and legs; the standard Tong Gia 90-minute session routine; communicating with clients.

If you only want to learn the head-spa part, ask a consultant for specific advice. The L2 fee, number of sessions and duration are also given by a consultant when you register.

The clip below introduces 4 acupoints before bed, an example of the safe self-care acupoints that nourishing-care learners get to know.

Safety in the wellness head spa

A wellness head spa is relaxation care, not a medical service. Practitioners should remember:

  • Do not wash a client's hair when they are very hungry, very full, or have just drunk alcohol.
  • Keep the head and neck warm after the wash, blow-dry the hair, and don't let the client go out into cold wind with wet hair.
  • Be gentle with older people and people with damaged scalps.
  • If a client often has long-lasting headaches, dizziness, numbness or weakness that keeps increasing, or an underlying condition such as blood pressure or heart problems, the practitioner should not handle it themselves but advise the client to see a doctor at a healthcare facility.

Shop owners who want to add a wellness head-spa service

If you own a hair salon, nail salon or spa and want to add this service, besides hand skill you also need to think about space, hot water, herbs, the hygiene routine, and how to train staff so everyone works consistently. Running a massage business is a conditional business line; look into the local procedures before opening the service.

Business owners abroad can see the page for nail salon and spa owners. The transfer of routines, SOPs and staff training is in L4; see also the article what to learn to open a wellness massage shop. Tong Gia does not promise jobs or income after the course.
