Learning health-oriented face reading: content, who it's for, the learning path and how to choose a class
Lương Y (traditional healer) Tống Văn Huynh · Tong Gia Acupoint Wellness (Huyệt Đạo Tống Gia) · 21/10/2026
Quick summary: Learning health-oriented face reading means learning to observe the face, skin tone and body shape to understand the state of the body and provide wellness care, not learning to predict fate. Learners need a grounding in Eastern medicine, how to observe on real people, and how to cross-check by hand. This article explains what you should learn, who should learn it, whether to learn in person or on your own, the questions to ask before registering, and the learning path at Tong Gia.
What do you actually learn in health-oriented face reading?
When you search for "face reading" (nhân tướng học), most of the results will talk about personality, wealth and love life. Add the word "health" and you are looking for something completely different: using your ability to observe people to understand how the body is doing and how to look after it.
At Tong Gia, this subject is called Y Tướng Học (face reading for wellness). It is based on a saying Lương Y Tống Văn Huynh often repeats: "the inner organs are the cause, the outward signs are the effect." The internal organs are the root; the face and body shape are the expression. You learn to look at the effect to understand the direction of the cause, and then provide the right care.
The clip at the top of this article is from the end-of-October trial class at Tong Gia, so you can see the atmosphere of a real class.
What should a health-oriented face reading programme include?
Wherever you study, a serious programme should cover these four areas:
1. Just enough Eastern medicine foundation
Yin and Yang, the Five Elements, the internal organs, qi and blood, at a level you can understand and use. You don't need to memorise ancient texts, but you must understand why a particular complexion is linked to a particular organ.
2. Observation skills
Reading complexion and vitality, dividing the face into 3 zones, recognising Five Elements body types, observing standing posture, shoulders, neck and breathing. What matters is observing under the right conditions and comparing with how that same person normally looks.
3. Cross-checking by hand
This is the part many classes skip. At Tong Gia, every impression drawn from the face must be cross-checked by hand on the spine. If the eyes see one direction, the hands must confirm it; otherwise, drop the impression.
4. Applying it to wellness care, and safety limits
After observing, you must know what to suggest: sleep times, meals, movement, a few acupoints that are safe for self-care. And you must know clearly when to stop and advise the person to see a doctor.
Who should learn it?
- People who want to look after themselves and their family: notice early when a loved one is worn out, and know how to remind each other to change habits.
- People working in hands-on care: massage, acupressure and muscle-release practitioners who want to understand clients before laying on hands.
- Owners of wellness centres and spas: who want their team to have a more systematic way of reading clients. You can also see the page for nail salon and spa owners.
- Eastern medicine enthusiasts: who want a practical, hands-on approach.
Who should not have the wrong expectations: people who want to learn to predict fortunes, or who want to draw conclusions about illness for themselves and others. That is not the purpose of this subject.
A simple self-check before signing up: try looking at your own face every morning for a week, in window light, and note down your sleep times and meals from the day before. If you find this observation interesting and want to understand why your face changes like that, this subject suits you.
Learn in person or on your own?
The theory can be read at home beforehand. But two things must be learned in person: observing real people with someone correcting you, and using your hands to cross-check on the spine. Hand pressure and sensing whether a muscle area is tight or soft cannot be learned through a screen. That is why about 70% of class time at Tong Gia is hands-on practice on real people, in small classes, with the Lương Y guiding each learner individually.
If you are considering learning online, you can read the online Y Tướng Học course to see which parts can be learned remotely and which cannot.
5 questions to ask before registering for any class
- Does the class teach observation for care, or for predicting fortunes?
- What share of the time is hands-on practice on real people?
- Is there a step of cross-checking by hand, or is it just looking and commenting?
- Does the class teach the cases you must not work on and must advise to see a doctor?
- What kind of document do you receive after the course, and what is its legal standing? Ask reception directly before paying tuition.
