The article Where to learn Y Tướng Học covered how to choose a place to learn and five criteria for avoiding superstition. This article goes inside the classroom: which part of Y Tướng Học each level covers, and how a real class session runs.
What the Y Tướng Học course covers: four blocks of knowledge
The content comes from the internal training materials “Applied Y Tướng Học” (Y Tướng Học Lâm Sàng) and Lương Y Tống Văn Huynh's training slides, divided into four blocks.
Block 1: The “Same Source” frame of reference
Features (body shape, spine, complexion) and organs (the five internal organs) both arise from Qi and Blood. The organs are the cause, the features are the effect. Students learn a five-step loop: weakened organs, negative emotions, habits and misaligned posture, changes in appearance, difficulties in life. Understanding the loop tells you where to start caring.
Block 2: Observation through Looking, Listening, Asking, Touching (Vọng, Văn, Vấn, Thiết)
- Vọng (looking): Five Elements body type, face, complexion and vitality.
- Văn (listening): tone of voice, breathing rhythm, the way the person tells their story.
- Vấn (asking): asking about daily habits, work, sleep.
- Thiết (touching): checking how firm or soft the muscles are, skin temperature, and the points along the spine.
The golden rule in the training slides: never assess a client in a superstitious way, and every observation from the face must be cross-checked by hand on the spine.
Block 3: Reading body type and face
- The five Five Elements body types Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth and the governing organ of each type.
- Thập Tự Tướng Pháp (the ten-character method): 10 face shapes (the characters Điền, Đồng, Giáp, Do, Thân, Viên, Mục, Vương, Phong, Dụng) and the back area that usually needs attention for each shape.
- The five sense organs and the five organs: eyes with the Liver, tongue and complexion with the Heart, lips with the Spleen, nose with the Lungs, ears with the Kidneys.
Block 4: From observation to care
Lương Y's three-step process: observe, talk with the client based on their body-type traits, then care for the reflex system along the spine and suggest wellness habits.
Which part of Y Tướng Học each level covers
| Level | For | Y Tướng Học content |
|---|---|---|
| L1 Introduction to Y Tướng Học | Individuals, families | Reading complexion and body type, the 5 body types and 3 observation zones; daily wellness practices; a few safe self-care acupoints |
| L2 Core trade skills | People who want to become technicians | Focus on hand skills: muscle release, acupressure, the 90-minute session routine, communicating with clients |
| L3 Specialist | Working technicians | Advanced Y Tướng Học to find areas of imbalance before working, combined with spinal nerve-reflex balancing |
| L4 Master and Transfer | Spa and wellness business owners | Transfer of the Tong Gia procedure (including the Y Tướng Học observation step), SOPs, how to train staff |
The acupressure hand skills at L1 and L2 are described separately in the article basic acupressure course.
How a Y Tướng Học class session runs
Taking the 3-hour schedule of the L1 opening session as an example:
- First 15 minutes: welcoming students, getting acquainted.
- About 45 minutes: the Unity of Features and Organs (Tướng Tạng Đồng Nhất), reading complexion, demeanor, body type. The content comes from Lương Y's book.
- Break, tea.
- About 55 minutes of practice in pairs: observing each other and filling in observation sheets, while Lương Y goes to each pair to correct how they look.
- Q&A.
- End of the session: an introduction to the 4-level pathway; anyone who wants can sit down for a 1-on-1 consultation, no pressure.
What makes the class different: students observe a real person sitting next to them, not just listen to lectures.
Who should learn Y Tướng Học
- People who want to care for their family: noticing early when parents or a spouse are worn out, and knowing how to suggest suitable habits. Start with L1.
- Massage and acupressure technicians: who want to know why this person is sore in this spot, instead of doing one routine for every client. The advanced part is in L3.
- Spa and wellness business owners: who want their team to know how to observe and ask the right questions before working. See L4.
Y Tướng Học is an observation method for suggesting care; it does not replace a medical examination. When you see worrying signs, the right thing to do is advise the person to see a doctor at a medical facility.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Y Tướng Học course teach fortune-telling or predicting destiny? No. The class only teaches observation in service of wellness care: body type, face, complexion, then cross-checking by hand on the spine. Fortune prediction is not part of the class.
Do I need to know Eastern medicine before learning to read features to understand the organs? It is not required. L1 starts from the foundations of Yin and Yang, the Five Elements, the five organs and the five body types. People who already do massage or acupressure will pick up the practice part faster.
How is taking a Y Tướng Học class different from reading a Y Tướng Học book at home? A book helps you grasp the theory. The class adds observing real people, practicing in pairs, filling in observation sheets, and having Lương Y correct how you look and how you cross-check by hand on the spot.
