Short-term wellness care vocational training: what a short course is, what you can do afterwards, and how to choose where to learn
Lương Y Tống Văn Huynh · Huyệt Đạo Tống Gia · 20/10/2026
Quick summary: Short-term wellness care vocational training means hands-on courses in wellness care, massage and acupressure, and muscle release that last from a few weeks to a few months; they are not medical training programs. How far you can go after the course depends on how many hours you practice on real people and whether someone guides your hands, not on the course's name. This article explains what a short course includes, how to divide your learning into sensible stages, criteria for choosing where to learn, and the 4-level pathway at Tong Gia Acupoint Wellness (Huyệt Đạo Tống Gia).
What is short-term wellness care vocational training?
When people talk about short courses, they usually mean vocational classes in hands-on care: massage, acupressure, muscle release, wellness practices. Study time is counted in sessions or weeks, not in years as at a medical school.
An important point to understand from the start: this is a wellness care trade focused on well-being and relaxation, not a medical profession. Graduates work as care technicians; they do not replace doctors or physiotherapy technicians. Understanding this correctly helps you choose a suitable course and avoid wrong expectations.
What a short course usually includes
- Foundational knowledge: how the body moves, the muscle areas that commonly get tight, the locations of basic acupoints.
- Hand technique: how to place your hands, apply pressure, keep a rhythm, and change position for the client and for yourself.
- The flow of a session: welcoming the client, asking about their condition, working in sequence, giving advice after the session.
- Safety limits: which cases you do not work on, and when to advise the client to see a doctor.
How long do you need to study to be able to do what?
There is no single number for everyone. Some people whose hands are used to heavy work pick up the pressure part quickly. Some people are perceptive and pick up the observation part quickly. Instead of asking "how many sessions", you should ask "after this stage, what can I do on my own?"
A practical way to look at it is to divide it into competency stages:
- Caring for yourself and your family: knowing a few safe acupoints, knowing daily wellness practices, knowing how to read a complexion to remind loved ones to rest.
- Giving a complete care session to a client: muscle release and acupressure for the neck and shoulders, back and legs, following a routine with a clear beginning and end.
- Handling more difficult clients: reading the body before placing your hands, knowing how to choose the areas to work on instead of working evenly from head to toe.
- Operating and passing on the trade: writing procedures, training staff, keeping quality consistent.
A decent training provider will say clearly which stage their course takes you to, and will not promise that "one course makes you an expert at everything".
Choosing a short-term wellness care training provider: 5 criteria to look at
1. Share of hands-on practice
A hands-on trade has to be learned with your hands. Ask how much of a class session is lectures and how much is practice on real people. Practicing on pillows or models cannot replace the feel of a real person's muscles.
2. Large or small classes
The bigger the class, the less time the instructor has to correct each person's hands. Wrong pressure learned at the start is very hard to fix later.
3. Is the instructor still working in the trade?
Ask whether the instructor is directly caring for clients and has a location that is operating. A routine used every day with real clients is usually closer to reality than one that exists only on paper.
4. Is there a follow-on pathway?
A standalone course can easily leave you stopping halfway. If there are follow-on levels, you know where you are and what the next step is.
5. Clarity about paperwork and promises
Ask the front desk directly about the type of document issued after the course and its legal value before paying the tuition. Be careful with places that promise a sure job or income. Tong Gia does not promise jobs or income after the course.
Learn to actually do it, not just to get a piece of paper
Many people learn a trade hoping to "have a skill in hand". That skill lives in hands that know the work, not on a piece of paper. Clients come back because they feel lighter and sleep more easily after the session; they do not ask where the practitioner trained.
So when comparing short-term wellness care training programs, ask yourself: after the course, will I be confident placing my hands on a stranger and completing a full session?
The 4-level pathway at Tong Gia
Huyệt Đạo Tống Gia was founded by Lương Y (traditional healer) Tống Văn Huynh. He has more than 13 years practicing Eastern-medicine wellness, Y Tướng Học (face reading for wellness) and spinal nerve-reflex balancing, and he personally built the program and teaches the classes. The program is divided into a 4-level vocational ladder, each level corresponding to one of the competency stages above:
- L1 – Introduction to Y Tướng Học (1.500.000đ): reading complexion, Five Elements body types, the 3 zones of the face, daily wellness practices, a few safe self-care acupoints, practice in pairs. See details in the article Y Tướng Học course: reading the face to understand the organs.
- L2 – Core trade skills: muscle release and acupressure for the neck and shoulders, back and legs; the standard Tong Gia 90-minute session routine; communicating with clients.
- L3 – Specialist: spinal nerve-reflex balancing, advanced Y Tướng Học.
- L4 – Master and Transfer: transfer of procedures, SOPs, and how to train staff, for business owners.
Tuition for L2 to L4, the number of sessions and their length will be given by a consultant when you register.
How classes are taught
About 70% of class time is practice on real people: placing hands, applying pressure, identifying the muscle areas to work on. Classes are small, and Lương Y guides each person. Tong Gia's principle: every observation from the face must be cross-checked by hand on the spine. "The organs are the cause, the features are the effect": look to get a direction, touch to verify.
The routine taught in class is also the routine used every day at the two service branches: District 12 (225 Dương Thị Mười, Phường Tân Chánh Hiệp, 4.9★ with 234 Google Maps reviews) and District 9 (Vinhomes Grand Park, 5.0★ with 183 reviews).
Knowing when not to work
Tong Gia is a hands-on wellness care service, not a medical service. If a client has prolonged pain, increasing numbness or weakness, or an underlying condition, the practitioner must know to stop and advise the client to see a doctor at a medical facility. This is the first lesson, not a side lesson.

Frequently asked questions
How long is a short-term wellness care vocational course? It depends on the provider and the level. At Tong Gia, the number of sessions and length of each level are given by a consultant when you register; more important than the number of sessions is what you can do on your own after the course.
Do I need any qualifications before taking a short-term wellness care course? Wellness, massage and acupressure courses usually accept people with no background. You can come to the Saturday-morning trial class so Lương Y can look at your hand skills and suggest a suitable level.

Is a job promised after a short-term wellness care course? Tong Gia does not promise jobs or income after the course. You should be careful with places that firmly promise these things.
How much is Tong Gia's L1 introductory course? L1 Introduction to Y Tướng Học costs 1.500.000đ. Tuition for L2 to L4 is given by a consultant when you register via Zalo 0888 264 559.
