Spinal work course: the honest picture of spinal nerve-reflex balancing
Lương Y (traditional healer) Tống Văn Huynh · Tong Gia Acupoint Wellness (Huyệt Đạo Tống Gia) · 20/10/2026
Quick summary: The spinal work course at Tong Gia is the hands-on spinal nerve-reflex balancing module, taught at level L3 Specialist; it does not teach bone adjusting or joint cracking. Learners first need to go through the observation foundation (L1) and muscle release and acupressure (L2). This article sets out the scope, why the foundation is required, the cases where no spinal work may be done, and the questions to ask before registering.
What do people searching for a "spinal work course" usually want to know?
The phrase "spinal work" is used very loosely. Some places use it to mean rubbing along the back, some use it for techniques that apply strong force to the joints, and others use it simply as a fancier name. So before choosing a course, you need to ask clearly: what does this course work with, on what, and for what purpose?
This article states plainly what Tong Gia teaches and what it does not, so you can compare it with your own needs.
What Tong Gia teaches: hands-on spinal nerve-reflex balancing
At Tong Gia, the spine-related module is fully named spinal nerve-reflex balancing, and it sits at level L3 Specialist in the 4-level vocational ladder. It is the field Lương Y Tống Văn Huynh has pursued over more than 13 years in Eastern traditional wellness.
In short, learners use their hands to:
- Search along both sides of the spine and identify muscle areas that are tense, and which areas differ from the opposite side.
- Work on those areas with suitable hand pressure so the body can relax and become more balanced.
- Combine this with advanced Y Tướng Học (face reading for wellness): observing the face and body shape, then cross-checking with the hands on the spine.
Tong Gia's principle is that every observation from the face must be cross-checked with the hands on the spine. Here, the spine is the "place of verification", not a place to test force.
What Tong Gia does not teach
To avoid any misunderstanding, Tong Gia states clearly:
- No bone or joint adjusting. The course does not teach cracking, jerking or forceful moves that make the joints pop.
- No machines. Only the hands.
- Not a medical service. Tong Gia is a hands-on wellness and relaxation care service. Spinal problems that need a doctor belong at a medical facility.
If you are looking for a course that teaches spinal adjusting, Tong Gia is not the right place. Saying so clearly from the start is better than you paying and only finding out afterwards.
Why can't you go straight to the spinal module?
Many people, especially those already working in the trade, want to go straight to the spinal module because it sounds appealing. Tong Gia does not encourage this, for some very practical reasons:
- Hands without feel cannot search. Telling tense areas from normal ones along the spine requires hands that have been trained through muscle release and acupressure at L2.
- Without knowing how to observe, you have no hypothesis to check. Reading the complexion, Five Elements body shapes and the 3 areas of the face is taught from L1 Introduction to Y Tướng Học.
- Without a safety foundation, it is easy to overdo it. The back and neck need caution. Learning the foundation first helps you know your own limits.
So the usual path is L1, L2 and only then L3. People with solid existing skills may be advised to move faster, but that is decided by the Lương Y after he assesses their hand skills at the trial class.
The clip below introduces the spinal reflex part of the Tong Gia way of working.
Safety: cases where no spinal work may be done
With the spinal area, the "don't" is as important as the "do". When studying L3, learners must clearly know the signs that mean stopping:
- Long-lasting back or neck pain, pain radiating down the arms or legs.
- Increasing numbness or weakness, a weakening grip, unsteady walking.
- A recent fall, accident or knock to the back or neck.
- An underlying condition, pregnancy, older people with weak bones.
In these cases, the practitioner does not do the work and advises the client to see a doctor at a medical facility. This is a common principle for both learners and clients coming for the service.
Questions to ask before registering for any spinal work course
Whether you study at Tong Gia or elsewhere, ask these before paying:
- Does the course teach hands-on work, or does it include joint adjusting? If it includes adjusting, who teaches it and how were they trained?
- Is a foundation required first? A place that lets beginners go straight into spinal work is a sign to think twice.
- Does the course teach the signs that mean stopping and advising the client to see a doctor?
- Is there practice on real people, and does a teacher correct each person's hands?
- What paperwork do you receive after the course, and what is its legal value? Ask the front desk this directly before paying the fee.
What learning at Tong Gia is like
About 70% of class time is hands-on practice on real people: placing the hands, applying pressure, identifying the muscle areas to work on. Classes are small and the Lương Y coaches each person. The process is used every day at the two service branches in District 12 and District 9 (Vinhomes Grand Park).
The L3 fee, number of sessions and duration are given by an advisor when you register. Tong Gia does not promise jobs or income after the course.
