Learning wellness spa from A to Z: a 4-stage map from zero to running things yourself

Lương Y (traditional healer) Tống Văn Huynh · Tong Gia Acupoint Wellness (Huyệt Đạo Tống Gia) · 20/10/2026

Quick summary: Learning wellness spa from A to Z means going through all four stages: understanding the body and reading the client, being able to do the work with your hands, working deeper and safely, and then knowing how to write procedures and teach them to staff. No course turns a beginner into a spa owner after just a few sessions, so what matters is knowing which stage you are at and what the next stage requires. At Tong Gia, those four stages are the L1 to L4 ladder, starting with L1 Introduction to Y Tướng Học (face reading for wellness) (1.500.000đ).

What "from A to Z" in the wellness spa trade actually covers

After one month of learning at Tong Gia, what can you do back home? A real Tong Gia clip.

Many people search for "from A to Z" because they want to learn once and be done, then open a shop. Tong Gia is upfront about it: this trade has many layers, and each layer needs a different amount of hands-on practice. A course labelled "from A to Z" that lasts only a few sessions usually just skims the surface.

If you draw it as a map, someone going from zero to being able to run a small place on their own needs to pass through four stages:

  1. Understand: how the body works according to Eastern wellness traditions, and reading the client to know what to do.
  2. Do: your hands can deliver a complete care session, with the right pressure on the right areas.
  3. Go deeper: handle difficult clients, know how to cross-check, know when to stop.
  4. Scale up: write procedures, teach them to staff, and keep quality consistent when you are not the one at the table.

So learning wellness spa from A to Z is not one course but a path. The sections below go through each stage: what to learn, the signs that you have finished the stage, and the common mistakes. Wherever you study, you can use this map to check yourself.

Stage A: understanding the body and reading the client

Beginners often want to learn the techniques straight away. But if you do not understand why you are doing something, your technique will be the same for everyone. The first stage should cover: reading complexion and body build according to the Five Elements, the three zones of the face, everyday wellness principles, and a few acupoints that are safe for self-care.

Signs you have finished stage A: you can look at a person and name a few things you need to ask about, instead of guessing at random. You can safely look after yourself and your family at a basic level.

Common mistake: taking face reading as a conclusion. At Tong Gia, every observation from the face must be cross-checked by hand along the spine. "The organs are the cause, the features are the effect", but the visible effect is only a clue.

At Tong Gia, this stage is L1 Introduction to Y Tướng Học, fee 1.500.000đ, with practice in pairs.

Stages B to M: hands that can deliver a complete session

This is the longest stage and the one clients pay for. Core content: muscle release and acupressure for the neck and shoulders, back and legs; a session routine with a clear beginning and end; how to talk with the client before, during and after the session.

Signs you have finished: you can deliver a full session without looking at notes, your pressure stays even from start to finish, the client feels relaxed, and you know when to ask the client questions.

Common mistake: learning from videos and practising on your own. Hand pressure, hand placement angle and how to locate tight muscle areas are things that need someone to guide your hands. At Tong Gia, about 70% of class time is practice on real people, classes are small, and the Lương Y coaches each person. This stage corresponds to L2 Core Trade, with Tong Gia's standard 90-minute session routine.

Stages N to V: working deeper and knowing the limits

Once you have the hands, the next question is: why does the same technique feel good for one client but not another? The advanced stage answers this by looking at the body as a connected system. At Tong Gia, that is L3 Specialist: hands-on spinal nerve-reflex balancing and advanced Y Tướng Học.

Going deeper also means knowing more clearly when not to work. Tong Gia is a wellness and relaxation care service using the hands, not a medical service. When a client has prolonged pain, increasing numbness or weakness, an underlying illness, or a recent injury, the practitioner must stop, advise the client to see a doctor at a medical facility, and not take it on themselves.

Signs you have finished: you can explain to the client why you work on this area before that one, and you have the confidence to say no when it is not safe.

Stages W to Z: procedures, training staff, operations

This is the part many "from A to Z" wellness spa courses skip, even though it decides whether a place can maintain its quality. Having skilled hands yourself is not enough; once you have more staff, quality depends on how well you pass your skills on to others.

This stage covers:

  • Writing standard operating procedures (SOPs) so every staff member works to the same standard.
  • How to train staff: what to teach first, how to check their skills.
  • Keeping the client experience consistent across shifts and staff members.

At Tong Gia, this is L4 Master and Transfer, for those who want to transfer the procedures and train staff for their own place. Shop owners living abroad can also see the page for nail and spa shop owners.

About the paperwork for opening a place: massage businesses are a conditional business sector, so you need to look into the local procedures and ask the regulatory authorities. Tong Gia cannot do this part for you.

How long does it take to complete the wellness spa A-to-Z path

No one can honestly answer with a single number that applies to everyone. The pace depends on whether you already have experience in the trade, how much you practise outside class, and whether your goal is caring for your family, getting a job or opening your own shop.

The number of sessions and the fees for each level L2–L4 will be given by a consultant when you register. Tong Gia does not promise employment or income after the course, nor does it promise a payback period if you open a shop. What Tong Gia can do is teach exactly what is actually used at its two branches in District 12 and District 9 (Vinhomes Grand Park).

A practical suggestion: do not pay for a full package before you know whether the trade suits you. Take a trial class, finish the first stage, then decide on the next. Learning wellness spa from A to Z step by step like this is far less risky.

Which stage should you start at if you already work in the trade?

Not everyone has to start from A. Someone who has worked as a technician for a few years can go straight to a later stage. At the trial class, Lương Y Tống Văn Huynh, founder of Huyệt Đạo Tống Gia with more than 13 years in the trade, will assess your hands-on skill and suggest a suitable level. See the overview of the whole ladder on the home page of the 4-level vocational ladder.

  1. Reserve a place in the free Saturday-morning trial class, 8:30–12:00, 10 places per session, at căn T16-21 khu Manhattan, Vinhomes Grand Park, Phường Long Bình, TP. Thủ Đức (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City).

Frequently asked questions

How long does learning wellness spa from A to Z take? It depends on whether you already work in the trade and whether your goal is caring for your family, getting a job or opening a shop. A Tong Gia consultant will tell you the number of sessions for each level when you register.

Can I learn wellness spa from scratch with no background? Yes. The first stage is reading the client and basic wellness, with no prior massage knowledge required. At Tong Gia that is L1 Introduction to Y Tướng Học.

After the course, can I open my own wellness spa? Hands-on skill is one part; opening a shop also requires procedures, staff training and the local paperwork for a conditional business sector. Tong Gia does not promise employment, income or a payback period.

Should I pay for an all-in-one spa course in one go? It is better to take a trial class and finish the first stage before deciding on the next. That way you know whether the trade suits you before spending a lot of money.

I already work as a spa technician. Do I have to start again from the beginning? Not necessarily. At the Saturday-morning trial class, the Lương Y will assess your skill and suggest a suitable level.
